AMETEK Pacific Design Technologies (PDT) is a leading manufacturer of liquid cooling and fuel pumps, accumulators, thermal control valves and integrated thermal management systems.
Based in Goleta, CA, PDT excels at designing systems and components to provide reliable performance at minimum size, weight, and power consumption. These products are found on commercial transport aircrafts, ships, NASA rovers and spacecrafts, and more.
The Difference We Make
For over two decades, PDT has been a world-leader in sophisticated liquid cooling systems for commercial, defense and space applications. This AMETEK business has been a proud and longstanding supplier to the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, providing its innovations to each of their robotic missions to Mars.
From the Sojourner pathfinder in 1995 to the Curiosity rover in 2011 and Perseverance rover in 2020, PDT has provided mission-critical thermal-control technology that’s helped lead the way to groundbreaking scientific discoveries. The liquid cooling system on the Curiosity rover has been running continuously since 2011, far exceeding its anticipated design life of two years and further extending NASA’s research. PDT products are designed and built to last in even the harshest of conditions, keeping critical mission equipment operating reliably.
Replicas of the PDT thermal control technology present on these rovers are on display within the Wondrous Space exhibit at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA.
Meet The Team
Meet Jim – an Assembly Technician Supervisor for PDT. He develops work instructions for new PDT innovations, then works with his team to assemble and test these products once they are ready for production.
“The most rewarding part of my work is collaborating with the engineering team,” he says. “With new products, there are many challenges in getting the required results, but our team of professionals is able to handle anything that comes our way.”
Jim has been with AMETEK PDT for over a decade and has seen firsthand the mission-critical impact that PDT products have on the aerospace industry.
“I have been employed by PDT for 12 years now and I continue to learn new things every day. PDT is a very special business, continually bringing new and exciting products to the mix of specialty products we already have in production,” he says. “I am looking forward to many more years working with the PDT team.”

Supporting STEM Education
PDT recognizes that educating tomorrow’s innovators starts today. That is why, in partnership with the AMETEK Foundation, PDT supports two educational institutions in their community – Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo, CA and Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, CA.
Each institution is recognized nationally for exemplary programs in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). In addition to financial support, PDT provides internships, project sponsorships, and volunteer support for their advisory boards.
