Promoting food security to feed the future
Colleagues from AMETEK AMT partner with Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee to support its mission to distribute food to every corner of the community, provide educational resources, and end the cycle of poverty.
At AMETEK, we believe in our ability to drive greater impact when our businesses unite to support a cause that is important to our communities. For nearly 10 years, colleagues at AMETEK Advanced Measurement Technologies (AMT), which consists of ORTEC, Scientific Instruments, Amptek, and Sunpower, have continued to partner with the Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee. Together, they help provide meals that reach more than 230,000 community members who experience hunger.
A member of the Feeding America network, Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee’s mission is to lead the community in the fight to end hunger. This non-profit organization serves people of all ages across 18 counties through hunger relief programs that strive to distribute food to every corner of the community, provide educational resources, and end the cycle of poverty.
Last year, Second Harvest distributed more than 24 million pounds of food through multiple Food Access programs, including its Food for Kids program, which discreetly distributes single-serving food items that serve as supplemental food for weekends or other times when students are away from school.
“Thanks in part to the generous support and partnership of AMETEK, more than 1 million pounds of nutrient-dense food have been distributed locally this year,” said Elaine Streno, Executive Director of Second Harvest. “AMETEK's partnership supported several of our food access programs, which support more than 5,500 local individuals in need of food assistance. We are grateful for the support of the AMETEK team and proud to partner with a local company who cares greatly about their community.”
Throughout the year, teams from ORTEC and Scientific Instruments roll up their sleeves to support their local community by sorting, processing, and distributing donations at the Second Harvest warehouse. They have also brought together other AMETEK businesses, including Amptek and Sunpower, to further this impact through virtual food drives that encourage everyone to participate in raising funds for Second Harvest’s mission.
“Our team is committed to making a positive impact in our local communities. With the AMETEK Foundation’s support, we have partnered with Second Harvest to help those in our community who are most in need,” said Steven Turnbull, DVP, Human Resources for AMETEK. “We are grateful for Second Harvest and all of their programs that help deliver for our communities.”
